Raised as an ‘Untouchable’ - Now a Christian Leader in India!
Kumar Swamy is the National Director of Dalit Freedom Network in India. He is based in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Kumar is involved in the Dalit empowerment movement across India. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Dalit Freedom Network, USA and UK.
Kumar holds a degree in psychology and has travelled extensively around the world to speak to audiences in universities, government bodies, churches, and professional organizations. He has been a guest on 100 Huntley Street TV in Canada and, in addition, has been featured at summer music festivals, benefit concerts, and major conferences in North America. His compelling story of being raised as a Dalit child, the dehumanization that came with it by being told he was less than human, and the despair which almost drove him to suicide, causes audiences to realize he understands something of Dalit pain and brokenness. Gratefully, transformation began when he heard for the first time the truth of Genesis 1:27 that he was made in God’s image.
Kumar is married to Jeeva who was born in Malaysia but grew up in India. At present, she is involved with DFN’s emerging work in anti-human trafficking among women and children. Kumar and Jeeva were married in December 1987. They have two children – son Abishek and daughter Arpana Ruth.
