The Salvation Army Prairies and Northern Territories Division
The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. Serving Manitoba since 1886, The Salvation Army has corps (churches) and/or social service centres in Brandon (1887), Flin Flon (1929), Neepawa (1886), Portage la Prairie (1888) and Winnipeg. The Salvation Army in Manitoba provides food and shelter, education and ESL classes, emergency and disaster services, children’s and seniors’ programs, Christmas assistance, community justice and modern slavery and human trafficking awareness programs, thrift stores, and connects clients and participants with community resources through partner organizations.
In Winnipeg, The Salvation Army has four corps and three social service hubs including Community Venture (services for youth, new mothers, newcomers, seniors, and persons with disabilities), the Winnipeg Centre of Hope (Manitoba’s largest emergency shelter and transitional housing facility) and Weetamah (the hub for justice programs, education and upskilling and utility assistance programs).
The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army is an innovative partner, mobilized to share hope wherever there is hardship, building communities that are just and know the love of Jesus. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people in 400 communities across Canada and in over 130 countries around the world.
